Avanti Garda

Background
Avanti Garda was basically the project that made Avanti Garda as a collective come together even though it wasn’t its original intent. Initially, Avanti Garda was drafted out as a street video part, with the main purpose of giving the highlight to lesser known parkour athletes of Prague whilst trying to film in a professional way and putting Prague “back on the map” in the worldwide parkour community. During the shooting, which took roughly two years in total, it became evident though, that the participating group of people has way more to bring to the table than just their movement. Ideas started pouring in and soon the concept of the part started shifting a bit from showing Prague and its best jumps to the pursuit of depicting the vibe of our training and non-training hangouts in general.

Most of us got to know each other way more over the creative process behind Avanti Garda and made us all want to continue in the creation of projects like this one was. Whether it was the making of the statue from the intro part, the long editing nights a few days before the first premiere or the filming sessions, there were so many moments during the creative process that none of us will forget.

We really wanted to make this video ours, which resulted in us only filming in Prague and only using Czech music and such. This also meant that everybody tried to put forth their most authentic movement. Looking at Avanti Garda a few years after all of it happened, we love how authentically we managed to present the time and vibes that were spent on filming it. It still makes absolute sense to all of us, why it was this video project, what stands behind the forming of Avanti Garda as a Prague based parkour and art production.
